Military Industrial Complex Hovering Over Our Heads; No More "Ad Astra Per Aspera"
I grew up believing that the astronauts were great heroes, that America could do anything, and that we would all go out into Space in my lifetime. That was before the Republicans murdered the Kennedy's, who started the mission to land on the Moon. What a nightmare it was to see co-conspirator Nixon's crooked face jammed in the window of our brave Moon walkers' decontamination trailer back in July of 1969.
We had made it: After tens of thousands of years of only dreaming, we went from the Earth to the Moon in less than ten years. That was the peak of the "American Century," the crowning moment of our history. Thanks to Nixon, Ford, Reagan and the Bush's, it's been all downhill since then. Even in Space itself, the Communist Chinese are pulling ahead. The Republicans don't care, as long as they make a buck on it.
What happened? "To boldly go where no one has gone before"? Alzo Sprach Zarathustra? "Close Encounters"? E.T., please call back. Can you hear me, Major Tom? One small step, and then, nothing. Under the traitorous, money-grubbing Repukelickins, America is all about the Benjamins, all bling-bling, and nothing more: No heart, no soul, no great ideals. How did this happen?
Hatred and fear, greed and envy, ignorance and prejudice happened. The filth known as the Right Wing took over our country by fear and intimidation, murder and character assassination, corruption and cronyism. Soon, we were no better than Russia or China, and we are rapidly becoming worse than Imperial Japan or Nazi Germany. Why?
Call it the "vision thing." We lost it. We began to stumble blindly along behind the blindest "leaders" who ever led a group of people into the darkness off their true path. We lost our principles, our ideals, our moral compass. We became money-grubbing, tax-avoiding, non-serving, selfish sociopathic asshole Repukelickin's.
This year we all have a chance to change that. It may be too late for most of us who remember Mercury One and Apollo Eleven (and aren't billionaires) to make it to the Final Frontier. But we can all hope and act to make our dreams become reality, as we did in the 1960's. All it requires is Belief and a lot of hard work. It starts right now, with reversing the effect of forty years of crypto-fascist suppression of American ideals.
Take over your local Democratic Party, and never let it go. Fight the Republicans until they are no more. Take back your country. Then maybe we can resume our progress towards our destiny in the stars, at which the Right-Wing only sneers, hoping instead for an Armageddon here on Earth.
