THE EMPEROR'S NEW CLOTHES

(REALITY SUCKS!)

George "Dubya" Bush has played his Reaganesque role well these last four years. As idiot Everyman, he has reassured millions in times of crisis. Millions of idiots. Suddenly, in last night's debate, he was forced out of his "comfort zone," his controlled environment, his reality-free box, and we saw him for what he is: An intellectually deficient, emotionally unbalanced, prissy little rich boy who is unaccustomed and unequal to not getting his way, or even being challenged, by men, ideas or events. For once in his life, Bush was directly and unavoidably confronted, in a serious public forum, by a superior man (in every way), and called to account for himself without his legions of sycophants and bullyboys to encircle and protect him.

A real leader might pull back and regroup at this point: Make some changes, admit some mistakes, show some false humility, fire a few assholes. If there were any connection to Reality left in the Bush White House, that's what he should, and would be doing right now. Instead, he has donned his Imperial Bullshitter robes, and hit the circuit of blind supporters. He's back on that great southern-midwestern Republican river, De Nial; rollin' along. Effectively, he will do nothing, change nothing, admit nothing. And this is how his robes will unravel.

In a week, Dubya will have to face Reality again. This time, he may be better armoured; perhaps drugged. But his bloated, emaciated, starving ego will not allow him even a passing humility. Before America's very eyes, he will self-destruct, and disintegrate. What a terrible thing for the world to see. I hope Kerry has the decency and the presence of mind to throw his coat over the bubbling pool of protoplasm that was Dubya, on international TV. After all, Al Jazeera will be covering this, live. Wouldn't wanna give aid & comfort to the enemy. And, think of POLAND!
