When Jews Couldn't Get No Respect

The great Rodney Dangerfield, AKA Jack Roy, AKA Jacob Roy, AKA Jacob Cohen, has finally reached his career punchline. The star now known to most as the google-eyed guy in the film "Caddyshack," died last Tuesday in Los Angeles of complications from heart surgery, at age 82. He was so old that he stood as a living monument to a time when Jews had to hide their Jewishness, to make it in showbiz.

Dangerfield changed his name, several times, to make it big on the night-club circut, TV and in the movies. Hard to imagine, in this day of Whoopie Goldberg, Shohreh Aghdashloo and Arnold Schwartzenegger that there was ever anything in a name. But, even in the 1960's, some places wouldn't hire or admit blacks, Hispanics, Jews, Catholics, workers, women, immigrants, or anyone not deemed sufficiently "American." When people, wealthy Conservative white Christian male native-born American type people, talk nostalgically about the Good Old Days, this is what they are talking about.

But then those goddamned LIBERALS came along, and changed all that. And yet, today, they can't get no respect. Wonder why? Maybe it's because the bad old days are coming back again. And that's not funny.

I started a blog online against the war in Iraq, and my mother told the draft board where I lived!

Now I'm following a suspicious-looking camel in an unarmoured Hum-Vee!

I put a BUCK FUSH bumpersticker on my car, and three state troopers took turns kicking my ass!
Now I'm somewhere in Utah wired up to a lie-detector! At least I hope it's a lie-detector. They get attached to your genitals, right?

I'll tell ya, folks, I can't get no respect!
