NO NEED WARNING: TSUNAMI'S UNCOMMON

THAT'S A DAMNED STUPID THING TO SAY

It's Just Like Saying Earthquakes Are Uncommon,
Because They Only Devastate You Once In A While...

I believe that we here in the Pacific have the world's first & only* tsunami warning system. Tsunami's are not all that "common" here, either, though that depends upon what you mean by common. Is once a generation common? Common enough, for the victims: That's why we have a warning system.

Tsunami's are about as common --and as predictable-- as earthquakes, which are completely unpredictable. So, saying tsunami's are not common makes no sense. You can say, "Well, we've only had ten bad ones in five hundred years," but that has no relevance to how many you COULD have in the NEXT fifty years. It's almost totally random.

Add to that fact the general instability of the "Ring of Fire" we live in the middle of, here in Hawaii: An earthquake, and then a tsunami, can happen ANYWHERE around that ring, the rim of the Pacific, at ANY time. We've been hit by tsunami's originating off the coast of Chile, Alaska, and Japan.

So, that's why WE have a tsunami warning system. Cuz ya jest NEVER know, braddah. Now, the question is, given the position of Indonesia and India on or near a major ocean-bottom fault line or two, and given the history of earthquakes and tsunami's in the area --New Guinea in 1998, Krakatoa in 1899-- and all the lives lost in those --3,000 and 30,000, respectively-- WHY DON'T THEY HAVE A GODDAMN TSUNAMI WARNING SYSTEM???!!!

Could it be because they are corrupt and incompetent? Or is it that they just don't give a FUCK about a bunch of poor fishermen? You pick one.

You decide, based on the geological evidence, if those living on the Atlantic Ocean, the Caribbean Sea, and the Mediterranean need tsunami warning system, or not. Can you say, "Atlantis"? How 'bout, "Noah's Great Flood"? My take? If they have earthquakes in or near the ocean, yeah, ya need one. But that's just me.

*[The Carib should have one some time this year. It was begun in 2002. No one else has one even in the planning stages, not even Europe. I checked... ]
