WHAT WENT WRONG?

THE NUMBERS TELL A STORY

The Majority Did Not Vote For Bush

Roughly FORTY per cent of the total electorate did not vote, for anybody. TWENTY-NINE per cent of the total electorate voted, AGAINST Bush. Even Bush only claims he got THIRTY-ONE per cent of the total electorate. Fifty-nine million for the Shrub, out of a total population of two hundred and ninety-four million. 59,000,000 out of 209,000,000, over the age of 18. Call that a mandate?

A mandate to do what? Invade Iran? Attack North Korea? Ignore what's going on in Israel and Palestine? Have some more militay confrontations with the Chinese? Continue our occupation of Iraq, indefinitely? Let Osama go on with his campaign of terror?

How about at home? Appoint extreme right-wing activist judges? Outlaw abortion? Anti-gay amendments to the Constitution? "Patriot" Acts 3 & 4? No real homeland security? No national health care? No money for public education? Continue trashing the environment? Do nothing about global warming? More tax give-aways to the rich? Bankrupt Social Security? Recession? Unemployment?

Bush has no mandate. The election results are unverifiable. Electronic voting machines are easily rigged, and leave no paper trail. Many of the machines were supplied or programmed, controlled or tabulated by avowed Bush supporters, leaders in his local & State campaign & Party organizations. There was no full, fair and verifiable count of ALL the votes. Therefore, we have no President.

Don't let the Republicans tell you any different. Don't let the Media tell you any different. Don't let your dotty Aunt Tilly tell you any different. There is a massive effort here to rewrite reality. We're all supposed to forget the voter intimidation; the unlawful disenfranchisement of millions of voters; the insecurity and uncheckability of voting machines; the things we all saw and heard with our own eyes and ears. Remember what Winston Smith's job was in 1984: Re-writing history. Don't let them get away with it.

END OF THE AMERICAN CENTURY

MORE BUSH MEANS LESS AMERICA

Our Values Will Not Be Passed On By Him

There's some merit to the idea of letting Bush win, just so he can be there as his own shit keeps on hitting the fan.

The problem is, we can't afford another minute of the Shrub. Dubya has changed the whole dynamic in so many areas, and so horribly: We're vulnerable to attack at home, and helpless to strike back, and the world knows it.

We support the worst regimes in the MidEast, and the worst tactics and policies there, and we don't give a damn how the Arabs feel about it. Look for GENERATIONS of terrorists yet to come, who now know our most vulnerable addresses, and have reason to strike them, and plenty of support, worldwide, that wasn't there before Bush.

We're the arrogant pigs of the world, consuming all the resources and polluting everyone's air and water. Meanwhile, we hypocritically preach at the rest of the world, about democracy and free markets and the environment, all of which, by our actions, clearly mean nothing to us.

We've even managed to make the Russians and the Chinese look good, while alienating our own allies, and driving a wedge between ourselves and Europe, contrary to all of our best interests. It begins to make sense for Germany and Japan to re-arm, and even for "rogue states" to get their nukes in order BEFORE we have a chance to attack them. Once they do, we don't dare attack, as Bush has proven to the world in N. Korea, and soon, Iran.

Bush will be remembered as the guy who presided over the end of the "American Century," and the profligate wasting of all our moral capital, so hard-won in that century. We've made it clear to the world, that America can no longer be trusted, by friend or foe, not even to act rationally, and in our own best interests. Because we allow ourselves to be presided over, and led to ruin, by a halfwitted yahoo with religious delusions of grandeur.

Imagine how we'd feel if a guy with a messiah complex took over Russia or China by unlawful means, and proceeded to attack nations they had no real quarrel with?

Meanwhile, here at home, from Lee Atwater to Carl Rove, American politics have sunk to new lows, turning neighbour against neighbour in the midst of a war. At the same time, their best efforts to beggar the American worker have proven so successful that we may never rebuild our system of social advancement and security.

It may really be over for us. The Repukes may have really succeeded in dismantling the Democratic legacy, from Wilson to Roosevelt to Kennedy. At home and abroad, our historically inevitable decline may have hit high gear fifty, a hundred, two hundred years too early, before Western principles of freedom and justice, fair play and open markets, toleration and concern for all could be permanently impressed on the emerging world civilization.

Bush certainly does not believe in these things. He will certainly not promote them out there in the world. At home, he seems to be headed towards a religious banana republic, with him self as Top Banana, and cowboy messiah. If we want to save our way of life, our principles, we'll have to fight for them at home, first.
