Yeah. We know how you feel, already.
In case you haven't been paying attention, the Clintonista's lost another round in their battle with Reality. The Democratic Party's Rules Committee decided to, as everyone is putting it, "split the baby." (Nothing to do with abortion; well, just the abortion of a campaign Hillary has been running.)
Rogue States Michigan & Florida will be rewarded for disobeying Party rules and holding their Primaries early by each getting to send a full contingent of voting delegates to the Democratic Convention in Denver this August. They will be punished by giving each one of their delegates only half a vote. The delegates were split among Edwards and Obama, who did not campaign in the errant jurisdictions, and Clinton, who did.
Clinton got the most delegates, but not all of them. Not enough to catch up to Obama in the race for the nomination, which he expects to sew up this week, with only the last three Primaries to go before Friday, 6 June. The Clinton campaign, in trouble since February, is on its' last few creepy-crawly legs.
Clinton supporters refuse to accept the mathematical inevitability of their defeat. They refuse to accept the long string of Obama victories and the overwhelming popular vote that have led us here. They refuse to accept the national and local polls which show Obama beating McCain everywhere, even in Republican strongholds.
Worst of all, Clinton's supporters are threatening to disrupt the Convention on her behalf. They are threatening to wreck the Obama campaign if he gets the nomination. They are even threatening to vote Republican in November if Obama gets the nomination.
This makes them Republicans, at heart. All along, a sizable contingent of Hillary supporters has been openly Republican, and equally open about intending to vote not for her but for McCain in November. They have been encouraged to do this by right-wing talk-radio hosts, conservative TV commentators and Rightist newspaper & magazine columnists, all quite openly. The same advisers have called for a full-scale riot in Denver, to thoroughly discredit the Democratic Party. These are Hillary's supporters.
Hillary Clinton has appealed to the lowest elements in American politics, actually taking advice from Bush's Brain, Karl Rove. She and her surrogates, including Bill Clinton, have played the race card at every opportunity. Now they are trying to split the Party on class and gender. It seems more like they are running for Republican VP than Democratic President. I would not be at all surprised to see her actually do that: Run as McCain's Spiro Agnew or Dick Cheney.
But the joke is, Republicans despise the Clintons. They would never offer her so much as a used Kleenex, much less a high office. They are only hoping to see her get the Dems' nomination because they believe it will energize their own base. They believe that she would be easier to beat than Obama, whose popularity among "swing voters" and independents they rightly fear. They also know that, if Hillary were to get the nomination, the tens of millions of "New Democrats" that only registered in order to vote for Obama would not bother to vote at all.
Hillary Clinton has pretty much proven that she cannot run a campaign, cannot raise money, and cannot win. What should have been a cake-walk for her, she has turned into a death-march, complete with a threat to assassinate Obama. Now she's threatening to assassinate the whole Party.
The People have spoken. Now, alas, it is up to the Superdelegates to end this. The question is, do they have the guts? If the Party leadership is unable to make Clinton accept the reality of her defeat, they must do whatever it takes to shut down her efforts to sabotage the Convention, and the 2008 Campaign. Because, otherwise, the Clintons will do whatever it takes to defeat their own Party's candidate in November. This cannot be allowed to happen.
