GENOCIDE MEANS NEVER HAVING TO SAY YOU'RE SORRY

.
CANADA APOLOGIZES FOR CULTURAL GENOCIDE AGAINST INDIANS

AUSTRALIA HAS APOLOGIZED TO ABORIGINES

The United States Has Never Apologized To Native Americans

What would we say? "Sorry we weren't able to kill you all." "Thanks for all the land and stuff; we regret we won't be paying you for it." "You helped us survive and prosper. On reflection, you may have cause to regret that. How embarrassing." Nice Hallmark card!

Until the U.S. finds the resolve to actually make it up to the Indians, I think an apology would be a bit of a joke. How we would ever make it all up, I don't know. Give the Indians North and South Dakota? Why, because we can't make anything of them? Because nobody else wants to live there? What about the Indians of the Southeast, and the Southwest? Why would they want to move to the frozen tundra? And the Indians of the Northeast and the Northwest, why would they want to leave their oceans, lakes, rivers and streams? And how does getting two States make up for losing fifty States?

I don't know about this apology business. It's cheap talk. It gives the intended apologisees a false impression that we actually care now, and that we will do them justice, soon. It sparks movements and court cases that go nowhere, as here in Hawaii. What is the point of it?

I think the apologizers know this. I think they are cynically salving their own consciences, while getting off scot-free on actually making reparations. The motivation is the same as it was for the idiots who set up the racist residential schools for indigenous peoples in Canada, Australia, and the USA. They were going to do something for the native peoples. They just weren't going to do much, or spend much. Besides their function of cultural genocide, these schools were also grossly underfunded hell-holes of poverty, brutality and neglect. Apologizing for that now without paying to making it right is almost like doing the same thing all over again.

Put your money, excuse me, put the aboriginals' money, where your mouth is. You owe them. You owe them more than talk, You owe them something other than another load of white man's bullshit. Show them that much respect. Cut the self-serving, self-aggrandizing bullshit.
