THIRD PARTY BLUES

A NEW SOCIALIST PARTY IS NOT AN OPTION

A NEW FASCIST PARTY MAY BE

Voting For An Outsider Is Voting For An Insider, Either Way

The problem with Third Parties, from Wallace to Anderson, Perot to Nader, is that they tend to hurt the incumbent Party, and help the challenger, Left or Right. (Ask Humphrey, Carter, Bush & Gore.) Start one now if you want a Republican in the White House in 2012 and/ or 2016. But remember, it does matter: As bad as the DINOs are, the actual GOPers are worse, always.

If this were a parliamentary system, we might forge a coalition between a neo-socialist Party and liberal Democrats in Congress and select a progressive Prime Minister. Instead, we have a strong unitary executive system, with a reactionary judiciary and an ineffectual legislature tied down by an obstreperous minority abetted by a undisciplined majority. Gridlock, anyone? It's a cash machine for the corporations, and nothing more.

If the Repukelickins were to succeed in jawboning us into a longer recession, they would have already laid the groundwork for a neo-Fascist Third Party with people too embarrassed or p*ssed off to vote Repuke. It could draw enough focus, energy, volunteers, money, media & votes away from the Dems in key areas to give the 'Pukes the slim majorities they need to steal another election, with a little help from Diebold/ Premier and the tame corporate media.

So, we have about a year to get out of this economic hole and/ or reinvent our political system.

My advice? Invest in shovels. Or, get off your ass, take over your local Democratic Party and kick the corporatists out, now. We have no other choice. It's a two-Party system, by design. We're either going to have corporatism or populism, Left or Right. Pick one and fight for it.
