Or Just A Quiet Place To Spend An Afternoon, Exercising Our God-Given Right To Take Pictures

These pictures were taken with a cheap, broken digital camera, and "improved" with GIMP, a free image-processing program. It's amazing how little you can do with tools like these, including me.

The LCD viewscreen on this camera broke that day, somehow. I didn't do nuthin' wrong, HONEST!!! I had to shoot blind on all these shots below, until I replaced the camera. I scammed a new one and put my own hard plastic transparent shield over the LCD screen on the new one. I discovered that, for less than $200 or $300, you don't get a protective shield over the viewscreen on any of the cheaper cameras (just try pressing on them): The liquid crystal display is just sticking out all nekkid & vulnerable to even a jostle, poke or squeeze. You have to pay more to get a properly protected screen.

I also discovered that nobody makes a hard plastic case for any of these little cameras: They're all soft cloth, plastic, neoprene, canvas, rubber, etc. A local surf shop [T&C Surf Designs, Ala Moana] has hard plastic waterproof(?) cases for holding cigarettes, cell-phones, etc. at the beach, made by Witz, of witzprod.com. It fits my camera just right, and closes up tight. I bought a slightly larger canvas belt-holster for it, the kind that you loop you belt through, instead of clipping it on and having it pop off when you're jumping out of a helicopter, rappelling down a cliff, or aggressively shoveling pizza in your fat face. I just tell people it's a colostomy bag, and go right to the front of every line. Who, me? Uh, large pepperoni, extra cheese, I guess. Ooops! Good thing I got that hard case!

So my $120 digital camera now has a ten dollar home-made LCD shield, a $10 case, a $20 holster, plus a $30 AC input car-charger, since FUJI doesn't include or even make one, and a $30 spare battery since theirs always runs down; also an extra $15 memory chip since theirs isn't all that big. So my $120 on-sale Best Buy camera has cost me $225, plus tax, so far, not including printouts, etc. Next time, pay the money, buy the good one. And get the extended warranty/ in-store service contract. Or just forget the whole f*cking thing, already!!! SHEEESH!!!
