WAR, LIES & VIDEOTAPE
Bush's ex-flak Scott McClellan now says it was all a Big Lie. No kidding, hunh? What have we real, honest, true Americans been saying about your right-wing bullshit for eight years now? Not that we expected any better from you bunch of Hitler-wannabees.
What's galling is how the corporate media is treating this. They sat there like fucking stenographers for eight years, faithfully taping & scribbling down the lying-ass Nazi's' every word, without ever so much as asking a real question. Now they are shocked, shocked!
So, were they THAT goddamned gullible? Or were they just afraid to rock the boat?
Hey, I can understand their fear. Nazis are dangerous people. But the so-called professional journalists real fear was that they might risk their cushy six and seven figure do-nothing jobs. That kind of money can turn even the most "liberal" journalist into a complacent crypto-nazi real quick. Even NPR's Juan Williams and Jim Engle, among others, went for it. It's good to be the king. Or live like him.
What I can't understand, condone, forget or forgive is how they accepted the daily talking point that the rest of us were lying disloyal assholes and ridiculous delusional nutjobs, when they knew we were telling the truth all along, as they are now scrambling to affirm.
True, honest, independent journalists, and the legion of citizen-bloggers that they forced to take over mainstream media's role as watchdogs of government in a free society were and still are scorned and sneered at. Yet we were the ones who tried to save our country from the mess it is in now. The corporate lapdog media were the ones who actively participated in selling us the war, and all that went with it. If they had to stretch the truth to help out their corporatist masters, no problem. Mostly, all they had to do was go along to get along.
So, now what happens? The bills are coming due on this disastrous war: $4/gal gas, a tanking economy, a resurgent Taliban & Al Qaida, a rising nuclear Iran, and tens of thousands of Americans dead, crippled, or mentally broken by the war the media helped Bushco sell us. Will Bushco and the MSM pay the bill?
President Obama's first act should be to set up a Truth Commission, with full subpoena powers, to investigate everything Bushco did, and everything their tame corporate media then oversold us. Prison terms and maybe some executions should be meted out. The Republican Party should be classified as a terrorist organization, and their racist infrastructure should be dismantled and shipped to Guantanamo. Their traitorous corporate masters should be tried on television, convicted and hung from the lamposts in New York City and Washington DC, near the 9/11 sites. The media itself should be re-regulated, decorporatized, and depoliticized. And the independent journalists and bloggers who stood by America in her hour of need should be recognized, and put in charge of the new, anti-corporate media.
Oh, and nationalize Big Oil, and the entire military-industrial complex. Next: Big Ag & Big Pharma.
